Our first stop was a spur of the moment stop. It was about an hour out of the way, but it was a fun little detour. The film Hope Floats, with Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr, was filmed in Smithville. We stopped by the home that was used for Bullock’s characters Mom’s house. Those backroads are always the best to drive on! As we headed over to Louisiana, our next stop was some of the filming locations of Steel Magnolias. Natchitoches, pronounced Nack-a-tish, is the city where Steel Magnolias was filmed. They even have a small Walk of Fame! We were only there a day, and that was not enough time. It is such a cute town, and I would have liked to have had an extra day to explore the river walk area. We were able to find Ouiser’s House, M’Lynn’s House, Truvy’s House, and the two churches in the film. Ouiser’s House. M’Lynn’s House. It is now a bed and breakfast; next time! Truvy’s House. And the Churches. Here are Truvy’s Church and the church where Shelby was married. Louisiana is a beautiful state and I can’t wait to go back! Next time, maybe not during the heat of summer. Next we are headed down to New Orleans, but first we stop at Myrtle’s Plantation.
